A multi-stakeholder coalition for bell-to-bell phone-free schools in Connecticut

Educators and Parents Unite to End Digital Distractions in Connecticut Classrooms

Phone-Free CT is a coalition of educators, parents, and child-development advocates working to advance clear, enforceable bell-to-bell phone-free school policies across Connecticut. We are urging the General Assembly to act this session to protect student learning, mental health, and classroom culture from persistent digital distraction.

Why bell-to-bell phone-free schools matter

Protecting learning and attention.
Educators across Connecticut report that constant access to cell phones disrupts teaching, fragments attention, and reduces instructional time. Bell-to-bell phone-free environments restore focus and allow teachers to teach and students to learn without persistent digital interruption.

Supporting student mental health and wellbeing.
Restricting phone use during the school day reduces social pressure, anxiety, and online conflict, while creating space for genuine, in-person connection. Students benefit from predictable, phone-free time to engage fully with peers and their school communities.

Clear, fair, and universal enforcement.
Bell-to-bell policies eliminate ambiguity and inequity by applying to all students, in all grades, across all public schools. Universal expectations make policies easier to enforce, fairer to students, and more workable for educators and administrators.

Who we are

Phone-Free CT brings together parents, educators, school leaders, child-development advocates, and public-safety partners. We are bipartisan, evidence-informed, and focused on practical solutions that work in real schools.
